One of a series of illustrations of planetary installations for Sven Olsen's starship combat game project (same as ship designs here).

And yes, I'm aware of the resemblance to the ion cannon in Empire Strikes Back.

The ESB Ion cannon is a pretty practical lay out for something meant to fire across a very wide arc.

I really like this. I know it seems derived from the Ion Cannon, but the detail and look is pretty cool.
