Stars in Shadow: Ashdar Carrier Illustration WIP by AriochIV Stars in Shadow: Ashdar Carrier Illustration WIP by AriochIV
Work in progress version of an illustration for the Stars in Shadow website, which is coming soon!

Stars in Shadow is a space 4X strategy game currently under development.

It is an interesting exercise to represent a two-dimensional design in three dimensions.

You have an amazing talent for visual design. Not merely the shape of the vessel which is quite cool, but also your choices for color scheme and where you put these colors. I design ships as a hobby but can never figure out how to make interesting markings beyond those with obvious purpose.

Basically, Arioch... *bows down to you*

This could be used in the Wing Commander Universe.  I see a light carrier or a jeep carrier, two to four escorts.  Raiding behind the enemy lines.

Gotta second Rogue284 there - definitely feels and looks both Loroi and Hiigaran there. :D Loving the color scheme.

Reminds me of the Tiger's Claw from the original Wing Commander game.

It's just a question of using the right tools. In this case, I built a crude 3D model of the carrier and used that for reference.

That's...efficient. :D

Well, thanks for the advice! I suppose something for me to keep in mind is the angle and aperture of the 'camera'?

Yeah. Moving the camera around and playing with the focal length is key to achieving the right sense of scale; otherwise it looks like a toy.

Yeah, let's avoid the toy effect. :D

Thanks for the advice!
