Stars in Shadow: Weapons And Shot Effects by AriochIV Stars in Shadow: Weapons And Shot Effects by AriochIV
Artwork for the Stars in Shadow game project.

These are weapon assets for the Human fleet, and some shot effect concepts.

In the game, you research technologies that unlock increasingly larger ship hulls and increasingly more sophisticated weapons. Each hull contains varying number and sizes of empty hardpoints, in which the player can place their choice of weapons that they've researched. Some weapons have heavy or point defense ("PD") variants. For a simplified view of the weapon tech tree see here

Each race will have its own set of weapon visuals, though some of the individual items may be recolors of this generic set. Some races will also have unique weapons.

(edit 7/10/14: added third-tier weapons.)

I rather like this. The weapon effects are easily identified by their brightness, shape, and color.

Just a guess - are these ordered by level of damage they dish out? Lowest at top, highest at bottom? Because I can imagine a black-hole projector being pretty high on the science tree....

They're ordered roughly by damage type and depth in the tech tree. The black hole projector is at the "superscience" extreme end of the tech tree.

That -was- the impression I was getting, so cool. Eh, it's just from playing RTS like Hegemonia, Homeworld, and assorted stuff like Sins of a Solar Empire. Black Hole tech would definitely be at the top of a tech tree, so that was why I was wondering when it went from "conventional" lasers to high-end tech. :D

And it's awesome seeing this kind of variety. Hegemonia wasn't the best of RTS, but one thing it did pretty well, along with Sins of a Solar Empire, was varying the tech by races, as well as tech tree depth, and increasing the power and damage of those tech as time went on.  Sins I think was even better at that. Got to be a bit of a pain in the ass to get to one of the superweapons, cause it wasn't cheap, and took FOREVER to research, but definitely worth it. Especially some of those insane psionic ones for the Advent. Muahaha. (The Advent were my favorites. Cyborg space elf-types with psi powers? Eeee.)

God I've had way too much caffiene....

Each race is getting different set of turret designs?  This game has incredible attention to detail!

That's the goal, provided there's enough time to do them all. ;)

Neat!  Makes me want to try to make mini physical models of them.  Not like I have the time, but still...

Shaped nuclear charge: focusing the lump sum of an atomic blast into a single stream?
Maser?
Electron laser?

is there a possible future weapon I missed?
ahh, the Tesla cannon.

Some especially diamagnetic materials in a cannon shape for your barrel.
Jellied Helium to keep it cool, say -432*.
and inside at the base of the barrel... The mother of all tesla coils.
A massive discharge of energy from some ultracapcitors pumps through the coil - dumping a literal lightning bolt into the barrel.
a bolt that can only travel coherently in one direction.
