Outsider: Spiral's Dagger by AriochIV Outsider: Spiral's Dagger by AriochIV
Some design ideas for Spiral's diral seii, a bone dagger blade which she wears as a pendant. This would originally have been a folding utility knife, but the handle portion has been lost.

This is for my webcomic
Outsider.

I like it. I'd figure a warrior culture would find things like this suitable adornment. Or maybe it's the Loroi version of dog tags? Could it have been something she kept from her group she grew up with and carried through her missions till now?

Liking the one on the far right. A simplified, elegant design that isn't too busy. I'm not sure on the single sharp edge up near the hole for the original handle having any practical value. Unless this was a Loroi Swiss Army knife and it was -supposed- to have a purpose, it seems extraneous to the core design to me.

Also, best of luck rebuilding from that crash. Been through a few myself - the worst being one when a CPU cooked the HD and wiped everything on it. Not even a backup to pull from. I had to pry my most valued uploaded stuff off Photobucket and DA back then. -shudders-

Yes, it's a ritual item from her childhood training band.

I agree that the simplest design is probably the best. The notches and what-not are practical, but probably detail overkill for what's a small costume element.

Could go with it looking smooth from a distance, but serrated at an extreme closeup? Just a thought, since that'd give it more practicality and sneak in your jagged edge from the other designs. But from the usual redrawing-the-character distances it'd look more like a smooth edge and save you the extra linework.

Well, the serration is an idea to suggest the alien-shark-tooth origin of the blade, but when one thinks about it, having a sharp or serrated edge of the spine of a folding blade is really not very practical. This would be the part you'd need to handle when closing the blade, and which would stick out of the handle when carrying in your pocket. Not very desirable.

Plus the cleaner version looks better. :D

Yeah. I agree with you. Swiss Army Knives don't have serrated edges, just various tools. But the edges on them don't make it hard to fold them back up.

And yeah, I do like the cleaner version best. :D No worries there. Was just trying to think up a compromise there.

prefer the second one from the right, look more utilitarian with the notch in the handle than the other. Also, compared to the 2 on the left, it not an exaggerated design so i think it would fit her more.
